Marc Cohn, Marc Cohn: You can pick these sensitive songwriter types by their album covers. For a start, they always look away from the camera, so shy and deep. Like Bruce Hornsby, Cohn plays piano and writes urbane, literate songs. His first single ‘Walking In Memphis’ drops every name in town, from Elvis to Al Green, but captures nothing of that city’s music at all; it’s New York session-slick like the rest of the album.
